Arctic Scientist Dies by Freezing Self in Alaska Glacier

Dr Richard C Hubley, a University of Washington graduate and coordinator of U S glacial research, died Monday night on a northern Alaska glacier near Barter Island. Col Howard Currie of the Arctic Aeromedical Laboratory ruled the death as self inflicted. Currie and two police officers reported Hubley lay down in snow, dressed for cold, and froze to death after leaving a hut where four scientists had lived since April. The bodies were brought to Fairbanks as investigators prepared to question Camp personnel.
