Master mechanic Louis Graef retires after 34 years of county service

Louis F. Graef, 70, Long Beach General Hospital master mechanic, retired Monday after 34 years 10 months with Los Angeles County. A surprise reunion brought his long-lost siblings from New Jersey and Pennsylvania to the party, while the county board and colleagues honored his career with tributes and a commemorative watch.

Lakewood Park aqua park plans unveiled for public viewing

Residents will have a chance on November 16 to inspect Lakewood’s proposed 172000 aqua park, now backed by the Park and Recreation Commission which approved initial sketches and seeks financing and community input before the City Council act. The plan includes three lagoons a wading pool overhead spray an observatory and a small floating dock on about 100000 square feet of space with a picnic area and landscaping. The commission also approved five other park improvements costing about 41000 including a storage area at Mayfair Park a fence relocation at the flood control channel extra playground space planting trees near Studebaker Road and Nixon Street a covered walkway and an outdoor amphitheater. The project aims to create a relaxed quiet environment in a modern city and the public unveiling will be at City Hall at 8 pm.

Eisenhart Named Vet Parade Marshal for Arm Forces Honors

Rings Stolen as Help Now Clinic Opens in Long Beach

A barefoot burglar stole $490 in rings from Lois Fellows at 4335 Country Club Lane Long Beach police said Monday. The thief pried a window, ransacked a room, and left footprints outside the living room door as Officers Pascoe and Johnson investigated. A new death prevention clinic opened at midnight Monday in Long Beach offering emotional disturbance support and funding to widen outreach.

Library Branch to Be Dedicated in Hollydale

Hollydale gains a new Los Angeles County Library branch with a 4800 square foot brick building at 12000 Garfield Ave. The dedicaton is set for Thursday at 2 30 pm. It replaces the 5669 Main St facility leased in 1949. The new library opens with about 15000 volumes and aims for 30000.
