Counsel Blames California Schools for Mexican American Scholastic Failure
Bert N Corona of the California Advisory Committee to the U S Civil Rights Commission told 430 attendees at the Associa tion of Mexican American Educators opening session that schools have created an educational obstacle course for bilingual students. He cited poor counseling testing biased methods and staff attitudes as barriers and urged dignity in culture and pride in bilingual abilities to achieve full educational opportunity. He attended after helping organize a summit of Mexican American leaders.

The Friday night into Saturday morning exodus to deserts and mountains for Memorial Day weekend clogged highways. Orange County traffic officers reported heavy northbound flow on the Golden State and San Bernardino freeways, with Riverside and Newport avenues moving spasmodically. Tourists Injured In Bus Crash Near Chiaguri Italy
Three Long Beach area tourists visiting Italy were injured Friday when a sightseeing bus was broadsided near Chiaguri. Of 33 passengers, 26 were hurt. 16 hospitalized and 10 treated and released. Names include Beneti Heking 63 of Long Beach with a broken right arm Leonore Ingles Sr of Seal Beach with fractures of arms and legs and Marie Selavani of Seal Beach with minor bruises. The bus was en route from Rome to Paris.

Wagner, a seasoned flyer with over 800 hours and a current commercial pilot’s license, trailed Miss June Douglas of New York, who claimed her second win in the event. Wagner previously won the Women’s closed court pylon race at Reno last year.
