DAMASCUS says Syria is pulling 3000 to 5000 troops out of northern Jordan at the Jordan government’s request. The withdrawal note followed a request by Jordan's Foreign Minister Samir Rifai. troops have been deployed since last fall to shield Jordan from possible Israeli attack.
Washington reports that Marines and Navy personnel have begun receiving Army commissions in the Signal Corps due to a reserve officer shortage. About 150 applications have been received with 97 accepted so far, while the Army denies recruiting from other services and attributes interest to word of mouth. The Signal Corps is under strength and may call up nearly 400 men to active duty in the current fiscal year.
Thirty two Indian tribes from Oklahoma will gather in Muskogee on Saturday for a gigantic powwow connected with the state's semi centennial celebration.
