Panel official defends abortion stand in face of Nixon opposition
Dr Charles Westoff, executive director of the Presidents Commission on Population Growth, defended its recommendations for free choice on abortion and teen access to contraceptives despite President Nixon opposition. He argued the commission aimed to maximize individual freedom and slow population growth through informed choice, not zero growth, and urged making contraception available to unmarried teens to curb illegitimate births and disease.
