Electronic crime control speeds police data links in Long Beach
Long Beach Police Department operates a teletype link from 400 West Broadway to the Los Angeles County sheriff's switching center, the Sacramento auto status computer, and the National Crime Information Center in Washington. Circuit 11GD51 rapidly checks suspects against nationwide records, enabling instant alerts on wanted felonies. Deputy Chief Ralph Kortz says the system will boost field efficiency, speed arrests, and help recover stolen items as more devices come online.
