Baby wins battle for life after rare liver disease
Jennifer Castillo survived Reyes syndrome after a monthlong fight at Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Oakland. Doctors treated pneumonia anemia jaundice and toxin buildup as her failing liver could not remove them. After six blood transfusions a Code Blue crisis was averted and she began to recover and go home two months later with renewed strength.
