Judges Klein and Erickson deny trial fixing charges
Two Los Angeles Municipal Court judges, Joan Dempsey Klein and Vincent Erickson, held a news conference to deny attempting to influence Judge George Trammell in the Lockheed Shipbuilding case tied to the Sylmar Townes disaster. They said they sought only to inform themselves about the status of the trial and offered no plea-bargain pressure or rulings. The commission later called the charges unfounded, while Trammell stayed silent due to commission rules. The 1971 tunnel explosion case resulted in convictions for Lockheed Shipbuilding and three employees after a lengthy six week trial.
