Patrons of LBCC elect new president at annual meeting
At the Long Beach City College Patrons meeting Mrs. Russell H. Cooks was seated as president with Miss Mattie M. Paine as installing officer. Inducted were Leroy Norberg and others. 11 scholarships were granted by the Patrons. Recipients include college division honorees Robert Hunt and Donna Lee Kelly, and business division winner Royce Cherryholmes. West Adult Center winners include Martin Booth and Christos Stergiattis, with international students from Argentina Mexico Greece and Japan noted.

Divorced Parents Invite Guests To Wilton Hotel Meeting
Divorced parents with either custody or visiting rights are invited to a Parents Without Partners meeting on Friday at 8 p.m. in the Empire Room of the Wilton Hotel. Mae Mathers will speak on vacation time facilities in Long Beach. The chapter, chartered in September, aims to support single parent families and offer social activities including Sunday socials at 8:30 p.m. in the Skyroom, bowling, and family events.

South’s correct defense in a tricky spade contract
In a bridge contest Oswald Jacoby faced a spade contract after a North quest for three spades. South charted the right plan by cashing dummy’s trump, discarding hearts on diamonds, and avoiding East’s heart lead to prevent disaster. West’s heart interruption and dummy’s clubs ruled the game.
