Senior citizens in Southeast Los Angeles County plan a dance at Cerritos College Student Center from 7 to 40 30 p.m. Friday with live music prizes and refreshments provided.
Two key Local 770 and Local 324 unions in Los Angeles and Long Beach Orange County will hold decisive strike votes Thursday amid a wage dispute with the Food Employers Council. The nine locals cover about 54 000 members from Monterey to the border with May 24 the last local vote. Negotiations since February seek pay boosts as a reopener ahead of a March 31 1975 contract expiry.
Management offered 30 cents an hour plus a cost of living rise described as unrealistically low by the union. The proposed boost would leave clerks 15 cents short of maintaining purchasing power. Journeyman clerks earn 4.68 to 5.57 dollars per hour in California. At the May 9 session the union trimmed wage demand to 77 cents an hour.
Former Mayor Sam Yorty asked the California Supreme Court to void a Los Angeles City Council subpoena demanding his stock transactions with Occidental Petroleum Corp. The move follows prior denials by lower courts and ties to a land swap dispute involving an exploratory drilling site in Pacific Palisades contested by conservation groups.
Since 1967 the U S Government tests tar and nicotine in leading cigarette brands and publishes results. In the March 1974 report Carlton again showed the lowest tar among regular filter kings at 4 mg and Carlton Menthol at 1 mg marked as the lowest among menthol brands, urging consideration of Carlton for lower tar intake.
