Writer of Lucky Old Sun Dies at 66
Beasley Smith a Nashville songwriter behind Lucky Old Sun Night Train to Memphis and Beg Your Pardons died in a Nashville hospital after a cerebral hemorrhage at age 66. He left Vanderbilt in 1922 to form his own orchestra then led WSM Radio as musical director from 1933 to 1953 before running a music publishing firm. A Nashville native, he spent most of his life boosting the city. He noted Night Train to Memphis was almost Night Train to Nashville.

Widow of Charlie Chan actor Warner Oland dies at 98
Edith Sharon Oland, widow of Warner Oland famed as Charlie Chan the Chinese detective, died Monday at Hollywood Community Hospital at age 98. A Smith College graduate who studied art at the Sorbonne, she married Oland in 1908 and lived later in Carpenteria California before moving to Hollywood.

A spectacular five alarm blaze destroyed the center of a 300 foot bridge over the South Boston rail yards, tearing down iron girders and a brick warehouse.
