Assembly to vote again on easing marijuana penalties

The California Assembly reconsidered a Senate-passed bill to liberalize marijuana penalties despite a Republican push to defeat it. The measure would decriminalize possession of an ounce or less to a ticket with up to a $100 fine, removing jail terms. Senate sponsor Sen. George Mostone, D San Francisco, said the bill could pass after Democrat support and Gov. Brown’s backing, though Republicans remained opposed.

Brown weighs flat $100 raise for all California workers

Gov. Brown contemplates a universal $100 monthly pay bump for all state employees rather than percentage hikes in his 1975-76 budget. The idea would aid low paid clerical and maintenance staff but anger higher paid engineers and drew criticism from the state Personnel Board. Demonstrators urge the flat raise as unions push for $100 monthly gains.
