Parma Says Ford Is Close Friend Not Nixon Aide
Leon Parma, longtime California associate of President Ford, describes a deep personal friendship with Ford built over 16 years. Parma, an aerospace executive and former San Diego State quarterback, says their talks focus on California matters and casual topics, not national policy. The Parmas hosted Ford and Betty Ford on vacations in Palm Springs and Vail, and Parma remains a nonofficial confidant who accompanies Ford on private, informal discussions.
