Ford warns higher car costs from safety rules
Henry Ford says federal safety and emissions rules could raise new car prices by about 800 dollars in coming years, with total increases near 1,200 dollars since 1968. He urges freezing standards at 1975 levels and warns industry could shut if laws persist. He also predicts a sales rebound and easing inflation but notes 1974 sales below earlier forecasts.

State Air Board backs transit use of gas tax
The State Air Resources Board by a 41 vote endorsed Prop A to allow gasoline tax and car license revenue to be spent on mass transit in counties and cities. Opponent H Batchelder warned it could create a need for higher gas taxes to fund highways. The board noted the rule would fund fixed rail transit and not improve bus systems.
