Calley bond OKd by judge in My Lai case
A federal judge in Columbus Ga upheld prior bond for former Army Lt William L Calley Jr allowing him to stay free on personal recognizance pending a hearing next month on his bid to overturn his My Lai murder conviction. If bail had been revoked he would have faced Army prison at Fort Leavenworth but could gain parole in less than six months. Calley, jailed in March 1971 for murders of at least 22 Vietnamese civilians, remains the sole convicted defendant from the massacre.
