Paramount Cab Co Denied City Permit For Long Beach Areas

The City Bureau of Franchises rejected Paramount Cab Co for operating in Long Beach annexed zones without proper permits. Owner William Simmons offered to confine service to a block bounded by Pappy and South streets Coke Avenue and Paramount Boulevard. Mansell noted enforcement is tough in adjacent zones and the firm had previously operated without a permit until all drivers were cited. Simmons said county authorization area shrank from 12 to six square miles amid local disputes.

County seeks 40 trainee appraisers in civil service drive

Forty graduates are invited by County Assessor Philip E. Watson to apply for trainee appraiser roles. Eighteen openings in real estate and twenty five in personal property offer a year of training starting July 1 with pay 516 dollars monthly, advancing to 641 after completion. Applicants must pass a civil service exam, be 21, a U.S. citizen, and meet residency and other requirements. Examinations take place at Long Beach and Los Angeles offices.

Forty Long Beach area law graduates pass spring bar exam

Forty law students from the Long Beach area passed the 1966 spring bar examination. The Committee of Bar Examiners announced the results Monday. Pair Sentenced for Huntington Beach Burglary Theft

Two Los Angeles brothers Benito Hinojosa age 19 and Israel Hinojosa age 23 were sentenced in Santa Ana to state prison for one to 15 years after a September burglary at the Playboy Men’s Store in Huntington Beach involving 91 suits.
