Orange County Workers Wage Hike Proposed at 5.5 Percent
Orange County personnel officer William C. Hart urged the Board of Supervisors to grant a 5.5 percent pay raise for more than 6,000 employees for the 1968-69 fiscal year, with fringe benefits such as severance pay and three-year vacation time accrual. Manager John H. Sawyer of the Orange County Employer Association called the package too conservative and sought a 9.5 percent raise costing over $5 million. Hart said he surveyed private and public sectors to justify the 5.5 percent figure and suggested holiday and vacation rule changes.
