Students May Stay Enrolled at Abbott
Compton Board of Education allowed students who attended Janie P. Abbott elementary to remain enrolled after Abbott was annexed to Lynwood Unified School District. Despite plans to move pupils to Roosevelt and Foster in Compton, 25 parents petitioned to keep their children at Abbott, citing safer routes and ease of travel. Superintendent Erickson noted a 4-1 vote enabling inter-district transfers, while cautioning on tax implications and busing costs. Abbott-area residents had voted to annex to Lynwood after previously seeking Compton incorporation.
