Murf the Surf Murder Warrants Issued in Slayings
Broward County issued first degree murder warrants for Jack Murphy known as Murf the Surf and Jack Griffith in the slayings of two secretaries near Hollywood Florida. A Broward grand jury handed down sealed indictments as New York detectives joined the hunt.

The 16,222 ton Greek tanker Anyon sank between Luderitz and Walvis Bay. All crew abandoned ship and used lifeboats with no casualties reported. Some survivors reached shore near Spencer's Bay north of Luderitz. The vessel had recently left Durban. Three ships were in the area.
