Artesia Fire Claims Two In Home Asphyxiation

A man and his wife died in a home fire in Artesia early today. Arthur Wilson, 46, and Edyth Van Marter Wilson, 47, former Long Beach Poly students, were found in bed after neighbors reported a disturbance. Firefighters battled the blaze for minutes and pronounced the couple dead at Artesia Hospital.

Stocks Stage Recovery From Losses

New York trading extended gains in brisk activity late today reversing Thursday’s heavy losses. Space-age glamour stocks led the rally with gains up to 4.50, while the Dow Jones industrial average rose 7.42 to 629.06 by midafternoon, recovering most of Thursday’s 8.75 drop.
