Kennedy says he would like to be president but wouldn’t run now
Sen Edward M Kennedy remarked he would like the presidency but would not run if a decision were needed today. He expects to decide by late 1975, saying he could complete his Senate term and believes he could still provide leadership if he ran. He noted family considerations and massachusetts constituents’ views, and acknowledged Chappaquiddick would be raised if he pursued the nomination.
