North American Finnk well Corp. awarded a subcontract to Cleveland Pneumatic Tool Co. for development and construction of E-1 bomber landing gear components. The deal covers shock struts that support each of the B-1 bomber's two main landing gears as the B-1 is set to replace the B-52 in SAC's heavy deterrent fleet.
The Defense Department ended back construction of two new nuclear powered guided missile frigates citing rising costs. The move cuts about 400 million in planned frigates as part of wider push to defer a fourth nuclear powered aircraft carrier.
