1500 Flee Mock Bomb Raid In New York
About 1500 people from Binghamton traveled to Deposits New York for a mock H-Bomb defense evacuation. Homes and schools opened as residents fled their houses in a planned test praised for cooperation and potential U.S. program adaptation. The exercise, planned by New York Civil Defense Commission, used buses, cars, a train, and a mountain route with 110 evacuees including 30 on litters. Lt Gen C R Heubner noted the full drill cost under $2000.
