CAB Ends Air Discount Plans for Families
The Civil Aeronautics Board ordered phase out of all discount fares for youth and family groups on domestic flights by June 1 1974. The 2-2 vote split along party lines with Republicans Timm and Gilliland backing abolition. The plan raises fares for youths and accompanying family members while keeping international and foreign destinations unaffected. The move could reduce passenger numbers and lower airline profits in the short term.
