Two Long Beach State deans to resign this summer
Two Long Beach State University deans announced plans to resign this summer. Dr. James McClelland, dean of instructional services since 1968, will return to regular teaching in psychology on Aug 1, and Dr. Jerome Manheim, dean of the School of Letters and Science, plans to teach mathematics full time next fall after nine years away from the classroom. A search committee will look for Manheim’s successor, while a replacement for McClelland is yet to be chosen.

Street Closing for Park Expansion Approved in Long Beach
Long Beach councilmen unanimously voted to vacate Lith Street between California and Lewis to allow consolidation of California Center playground sections and eliminate a hazard for children. Opponents argued it would force longer walks and risk reduced property values, while supporters noted expanded green space and safer park access. Police and fire services stated no impact on area coverage, and officials cited prior studies supporting enlargement of the center.
