No Fault Auto Insurance Plan Approved By Senate
The Senate, 66 to 27, approved offering no fault auto insurance with the option to use group health coverage as the primary medical protection. An amendment to exempt nonconforming states was rejected 61 to 32. The plan would guarantee medical costs up to 15000 in wages, 31000 in funeral expenses, and 5000 for death benefits, with limited additional lawsuits unless death, permanent disability, or serious disfigurement occurs. Opponents argued the bill would not curb lawsuits sufficiently.
