Racial attitudes shift as poll shows black leadership hopes
A Time magazine poll of 1,255 persons finds 63 percent looked to Kennedy and Johnson administrations for black leadership while 40 percent of teens rose in support. Only 3 percent of blacks trust Nixon era leadership. Most favor a political stance focusing on black advancement and economic empowerment, with 77 percent backing militant pride and 70 percent noting new jobs. Three black leaders Julian Bond Bob Seale and Whitney Young Jr say blacks must gain political economic influence. Louisville imposes eight day waiting period for hand gun purchases to allow police background checks.
