A Common Cause study reports that as of February 2 Congress is seeing more money from special interest groups than in 1972. Total cash on hand for 1974 congressional races reaches 14.2 million with 5.9 million from business groups and 5 million from labor. Republican and Democratic committees show disparate funds, with parties poised to spend heavily as campaigns begin.

Senate votes on ballot fund reform

The Senate approved four amendments and rejected four others on a federal funding bill for elections. Amendments passed include allowing organizations to donate up to six thousand dollars and banning foreign nationals' contributions, while others limited subsidies to presidential or congressional races or barred current members from 1976 primaries. The measure, backed by 15 cent per eligible voter subsidies, faces a likely Nixon veto.
