Computer car pools by May 1st target urban areas
Federal Highway Administrator Norbert Tiemann aims to have computerized car pools operating by May 1 in 236 urban areas with populations over 50,000. He said the program works and can be implemented quickly using federal computer programs and state systems, while rural transit plans loom for Congress. In Alaska, a World Airways DC8 charter carrying 233 passengers slid off the Anchorage runway after tire failure, injuring 12. The jet was bound for Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines via Travis AFB in California.
