Last troops fly out longest U.S. war ends

In Saigon the last fleet of transports departed Tan Son Nhut Airport ending 12 years 2 months and 29 days of direct U.S. military involvement in Vietnam. A final group of 2 501 GIs boarded as POWs in Hanoi were evacuated with peace and honor noted by a touring general and the Star Spangled Banner played. Lt. John C. Exseh of Springfield Illinois was among the POWs in Hanoi.

Last 67 POWs Released From Indochina Freedom

At Clark Air Force Base Philippines two C141 transports delivered 67 U S prisoners of war returning from North Vietnam and Indochina after the cease-fire. The crowd cheered as 40 men arrived on the first flight and 27 on the second. Lt Col James W O Neill of Las Vegas expressed joy at the homecoming and national pride.

Fired LBSU prof jailed on drug rap

Former Long Beach State University professor Dr. Donald Russell Robertson and Shirley Ann Smith were arrested in Long Beach after more than 200 pounds of marijuana were found in an apartment. Robertson faces grand theft auto and drug charges. Smith is charged with possession of marijuana and cocaine. Police recovered marijuana during a motel and apartment search and noted Robertson’s links to a private plane and border-area activity. Both professors had been previously suspended over classroom nude model incidents.
