Publisher testifies Hughes TV habits led to station sale

Las Vegas Sun publisher Hank Greenspun testified in Los Angeles in a 17.5 million libel suit that he sold KLAS-TV to Howard Hughes because the station could not sustain Hughes all night viewing expectations. He said Hughes aides demanded longer hours and more Westerns, and that the March 1968 sale followed repeated format pressures. Greenspun also noted Hughes previously attempted to buy the Las Vegas Review Journal and that he arranged a 500000 prepaid ad contract to block Hughes from taking the Sun. He disclosed the Paradise Valley Country Club sale for 26 million.
