FCC proposes one media outlet per market within five years
The FCC urged newspapers and broadcasters to shrink ownership to a single mass medium in each community within five years. A separate rule blocks further concentration in markets, allowing current multi-station owners to keep all stations but prohibiting new acquisitions in the same community. The commission plans a filing process to force divestitures to AM FM or TV or newspaper ownership, with definitions of market to be developed. Senator Hart welcomed action, noting the aim to curb existing concentration.
