City OKs Brighter Streets
Bellflower will get brighter streets under a lighting campaign approved by the City Council after a report by public works director William O. McConnell. The plan raises main thoroughfare lighting to 20,000-lumen mercury vapor lamps at 200-foot intervals, and residential lights from 2,500 to 7,000 lumens. Annual power costs rise from 107,000 to 160,000, with the city covering bills. Steiny and Mitchell Inc. won a 114,597 contract to modify traffic signals citywide, including new signals and a city wide signal control system funded in part by 125,000 in county aid.
