Lawyer Attacks Gabrielson Fee Demand in Tideland Suit
A Los Angeles lawyer challenged the $10 million fee sought by Theodore R. Gabrielson for his role in the Long Beach tidelands oil litigation. Beardsley argued a $100,000 fee would be reasonable and that Gabrielson’s 25 per hour rate at the time would have been typical, noting the case’s complexity did not justify 20 million dollars. The state opposes Gabrielson, claiming the fee is excessive and based on the supposed impact of his Mallon suit contributions.
