Balenciaga Dies at 77 in Valencia Spain

Cristobal Balenciaga renowned fashion designer died Thursday night in Valencia at age 77 from a heart attack. The Spanish couturier, who briefly returned to design Maria Del Carmen Martires-Bordiu's wedding dress for Generalisimo Franco's granddaughter, had closed his Paris house in 1908 and was once hailed as the world's leading designer despite facing financial pressures amid costly gowns.

Flying wedding on trapeze at Oklahoma City circus

Bride Alicia Pacian and groom Don Martinez wed midair during the 29th annual India Temple Shrine Circus in Oklahoma City. The ceremony on a swinging trapeze was officiated by Rev. Karl R. Riveheart as dozens watched, with a garter toss triggering a brief scramble. Martinez, 28, and Pacian, 21, met last year and married on opening night, wearing bright costumes amid applause. Contempt Hearing Ordered in Galella Onassis Case

In New York a federal judge reserved rulings on rival Onassis and photographer Galella lawsuits while ordering a contempt hearing for Galella. Louisiana court strikes down ban on biracial adoptions

A three judge federal panel in New Orleans invalidated Louisiana’s law prohibiting adoptions across races. The decision calls the statute arbitrary and invidiously discriminatory and violates equal protection under the 14th Amendment. The suits were brought by white and mixed race couples seeking to adopt children of a different race in Coyington and Kil Polk.
