New quake evidence at Auburn Tam dam site raises alarm
Anti-dam group Friends of the River says USGS scientists found 105 centimeters of ground movement within 70 000 years near the dam site east of Sacramento near Auburn. They cite a 25 000 year possibility and note the Bureau of Reclamation deems any fault active if moved in 10 000 years. A review by Woodward Clyde is due June 1 as federal hearings open in Sacramento on the dam project. Governor Brown backs the dam if seismic studies show safety against strong earthquakes.
