Plans for 10 lunar voyages by NASA official
Dr. Thomas Paine, NASA administrator, said if the first manned lunar touchdown succeeds by July 1, a sequence of nine more voyages would follow, totaling 10 surface missions. The early landings would carry equipment to study lunar surface disturbances and laser reflectors, with later missions targeting regions of highest interest. Paine added Mars probes would orbit and relay TV images, aiding the search for life indicators, while unmanned Mars landings are not planned for 1973.
