Victorious students end a week long occupation of the administration building with a tentative agreement granting a voice in faculty matters. A special commission will weigh teaching effectiveness in promotions and firings, primarily by student evaluations. About 750 began and 50 spent the final night in the building with no reported damage.
The state college academic senate chairman threatened an indefinite adjournment unless Chancellor Dumke reinstate professor Rutherford, fired amid staff strife after a San Jose State faculty recommendation. Richfield in Los Angeles vowed to ask the board to reverse Rutherford's firing at their next meeting. The sit-in at the college continued with no violence, as President Love called the protest constitutionally protected and kept the building open 24 hours.
