Public defender marijuana case halted by DA in Los Angeles
A Long Beach deputy public defender jailed March 14 in San Pedro with five others in a case tied to a $4,840 marijuana payoff was released after Deputy Dist. Atty. Steve Ogden rejected a police request for a felony complaint. Ogden found police evidence insufficient to link Llewellyn H. to the alleged deal.

Four injured in two Long Beach traffic accidents
Four people were injured in two traffic accidents in Long Beach. Gary Tabb, 17, of 3138 Palo Verde Ave, treated at Woodruff Community Hospital after a motorcycle collision at Palo Verde and Pageantry with a passing car fleeing. John A. A second crash on Pioneer Boulevard north of King Street left Beatrice Mancillas hospitalized after crashing into a parked car. Police recovered a marijuana arrest linked to a Narhor City residence. three Harbor City men charged with felony violations. Kathleen Andresen reported jewelry and collectibles missing valued at $625 after a burglary on Downey Avenue.

Lakewood gas stations discuss price posting hours
Eight of Lakewood’s 53 service stations met at San Martin Park in a city called session to discuss price posting hours and the push to post prices for all gas grades for visibility from adjacent streets. The meeting, held Monday night, backed a city ordinance effective today and noted most dealers already obey the law. Some dealers proposed staggered hours to serve the community, while others warned posting may not alleviate shortages caused by an Arab oil embargo.

New zone bid to be discussed in West Long Beach
A draft environmental impact report for a proposed industrial center by Las Vegas Land and Water Co. on 10 vacant acres in West Long Beach will be considered by the planning commission at 9 a.m. Wednesday in City Hall. The site lies between the Long Beach Freeway and the Union Pacific Railroad right of way north of Carson Street. First phase covers about 12 acres north of the railroad and south of Dominguez Street. The land is now industrial zoned but used mainly for agriculture.
