Fat Man Jobless Pay Case Stirs Unemployment Board
A California unemployment appeal board ruling questioned when overweight workers can be fired for cause. Clifford L. Priddy, 26, won continued jobless benefits after a referee found him still able to work, despite weighing about 300 pounds. The decision affects Anaconda American Brass Co and could raise its unemployment insurance rate. Ananda plans to rehire Priddy if he loses weight to 248 pounds. The case reflects broader concerns about body weight and job security in employment law.
