California and Long Beach press oil price ceiling lift
California and Long Beach joined with other oil states in urging the Federal Energy Office to lift price ceilings on city and state produced oil. FEO rolled back exemptions on Feb 21, risking reduced production and major revenue losses estimated by state officials at hundreds of millions annually. Leonard Putnam warned Long Beach could shut parts of the Wilmington field if exemptions end. Reagan labeled the action harmful to federalism and City revenue.
