Legislature Near Windup Cuts 13 Million in Budget
In Sacramento a legislative committee trimmed Gov Knight’s no tax increase budget by 13 million, with 10.9 million from the General Fund and 2.4 million from Special Funds. Water development funds of 72 million remain unresolved as the Ways and Means panel plans to report to the Assembly floor Monday. The panel also rejected a 10 percent salary hike for state college staff, citing economic uncertainty, while pursuing a 2 million study of the Eel River as a potential water source for the North Coast and Southland interests.
