Dinamite Blast Halts Gulf Oil Fire With Dynamic Cap
Venice Louisiana United Press International reports firefighters used a 2400 pound dynamite blast to suppress the largest oil fire in Gulf of Mexico history aboard a Chevron platform off the Louisiana coast. Oil spouted about 100 feet, with five barrels escaping during the firefighting. Interior officials say some reignition may be needed to burn off escaping oil before capping, aiming to reduce water pollution risks.
