Milk price hike urged by Southern California dairies
Southern California milk processors urged state approval of an 8 cent per half gallon milk price rise arguing inflation and margins require adjustment after a prior 1970s increase. Critics accused the Milk Advisory Board of wasting 4.4 million dollars yearly to push consumption amid a milk surplus while defenders said Los Angeles prices remain among the lowest in 23 cities.

Supervisors OK gas plan for county cars
From Our L A Bureau Supervisors Tuesday approved gasoline rationing plans for all county vehicles but because of promised state aid it appeared unlikely the plans would be put into effect. The plan by Chief Administrative Officer Arthur Will would limit emergency service vehicles to 60 percent of March needs while other county operations would receive 33 percent with distribution via rationing coupons. County Purchasing Agent Gene Davis said verbal assurance from the state energy office early Tuesday that the county would get 100 percent of emergency vehicle needs for March.
