California trout season opens May 2 with mixed bag limits
May 2 marks the start of California's general trout season with a statewide 10 fish limit except in 10 northeastern counties where the limit is 15. Henry Cline Schmidt of the Fish and Game Commission features in a debate over conservation and cheese bait bans, joined by Commissioner Carl Wente in advocating stricter rules if depletion appears. Other measures include bass limits in San Diego County, removal of crappie limits on certain lakes, halibut limit cut, kelp bass size increase, and local lake limits for Doane Pond and nearby waters. Outdoor notes report large catfish catches, kokanee stocking at Arrowhead Lake, and strong bass and crappie activity at Railroad Canyon Lake with new lures performing well.
