Massive blast to release waters behind St Lawrence project
A 30 ton dynamite charge will rupture a cofferdam on the St. Lawrence River Seaway, freeing nearly 200 billion gallons of water to form Lake Saint Lawrence. The flood will reclaim land, submerge towns, and trigger celebrations in Canada and the United States as the Great Lakes route opens to deep draft ships. The event marks a milestone in the U S Canadian hydro electric and Seaway ventures aimed at regional prosperity.
