Sheriff Apologizes Over Honey Reinstatement
Santa Barbara County Sheriff John Carpenter apologized before the Board of Supervisors after being forced by the Civil Service Commission to reinstate Capt. Joel Honey. He called the commission's grounds a giant step backward for professional law enforcement citing disbelief of testimony from officers across three counties. Honey, who led the Isla Vista riot response in 1970, faced multiple accusations from wearing a sword to firing on a promotion party and other alleged abuses.
