Desertion rate drops in Army amid Vietnam pullout
The Army reports a downward trend in worldwide desertions for the first time in seven years. For the first three quarters of fiscal 1972 ending June 30, 40,927 desertions were logged, about 22,000 fewer than the same period in 1971, with officials attributing the decline to factors such as fewer draftees, higher enlistment standards, and faster discharge processing as withdrawals from Vietnam proceed.

Pell says U S cloud seeding over North Vietnam
Senator Claiborne Pell cites Providence Journal interview claiming the United States seeds clouds over North Vietnam to create downpours. He asserts a treaty banning weather modification as weapons of war, noting seeding allegedly began around 1986 to disrupt Ho Chi Minh Trail supply routes and has caused deadly floods.
