Chrysler Plans Plant Shutdowns for Model Changeover
Chrysler Corp said it will close three assembly plants for four days in early July and shut down all car factories for the annual model changeover about 10 days earlier than last year. About 9,400 workers will be laid off during the early July shutdowns, with the plants in Detroit St Louis and Los Angeles each closing for four days starting July 5. The factories will be shut nine days total counting the Fourth of July holiday and weekend. The move is part of industry cutbacks as sales lag behind last year’s pace. General Motors previously said it would switch to 1967 models 10 days early.
