Irrigation Contracts Upheld by Justices
The Supreme Court upheld the validity of contracts between California irrigation districts and the Reclamation Bureau that fix a 160 acre limit for users. Justice Clark wrote the 8-0 decision. Justice Frankfurter took no part. The decision could affect water users in 17 western reclamation states. The court also held Tacoma, Washington may condemn a fish hatchery site for hydroelectric development and ruled the Selective Service Act does not require restoring a veteran to a promoted position in seniority. The court plans to begin its summer recess after June 30.
